Siddha Medicine - Thirumoolar

‘Medicine’ means the one which removes the disease, the one which removes the deficiency.

In any state of mind or body, the medicine is the only thing that helps you to live better.

"வீர மருந்தொன்றும் விண்ணோர் மருந்தொன்றும் வொன்

veera marunthonrum vinnoar marunthonrum von

நாரி மருந்தொன்றும் நந்தி அருள் செய்தான்

naari marunthonrum nanthi arul seythaan

ஆதி மருந்தொன் றறிவா அகலிடஞ்

aadhi marunthon rarivaa agalidanj

கொத்தி மருந்திது சொல்லவொண்ணாதே

koththi marunthithu sollavonnaathae"

says Thirumoolar’s song which explains the importance of medicines.

In the Kamba Ramayanam, in yuththa kaandam while Hanuman is been asked to bring the medicine, Rama explains the significance of the medicine in the following song.

"மாண்டாரை உய்விக்கும் மருந்து ஒன்றும்,

maandaarai uyvikkum marunthu onrum,

...........மெய்வேறு வகிர்களாகக்

...........meyvaeru vagirkalaagak

கீண்டாலும் பொருந்துவிக்கும் ஒருமருந்தும்,

keendaalum porunthuvikkum orumarunthum,

...........படைக்கலங்கள் கிளர்ப்பது ஒன்றும்,

...........padaikkalangal kilirppathu onrum,

மீண்டேயும் தம் உருவை அருளுவது ஓர்

meendaeyum tham uruvai aruluvathu oar

...........மெய்ம்மருந்தும், உள

...........meymmarunthum, ula"

Based on the circumstances people live and their customs, their way of medication varies.

The way of medication that has been initiated, practiced and still being safe guarded is the Siddha medicine.

In this technique of medication, they have given re-birth to the one who have died also. So we need not explain the importance of this medication anymore. 

The Siddha medicine has got such a great features, and then imagines how great the persons who made it are.

The people who have given this Siddha medicine are still being prayed by the Tamilians.

To identify the disease there are eight different methods that have been followed in the Siddha medicine. They are Naadi (pulse), Na (tongue), Mozhi (language/utterance), Malam (faeces), Parisam (sense of touch), Niram (colour), Vizhi (eyeball), Siruneer (urine).

Other than this there is a simple technique to identify the disease. Take the early morning excretion in a glass test tube and add sesamum oil.

1. If a ring like structure forms leaving a gap - Paralysis

2. If the oil drop looks like snake like structure -  Phlegm

3. If it all collects together and looks like a pearl - Bile

Like this way also you can decide the disease says Bogar.

In Siddha medicine there are techniques for making surgeries also, for which there is an evident in the following song.

"குத்துங் காச முத்துப் போல்

கூடிப் பிரியும் குன்றாமல்

koodip piriyum kunraamal

சற்றுங் களிம்போன்றில்லாமல்

முற்றும் ஆறு விரல் நீளம்

மூன்றும் பின்னும் விரல் நீக்கி

moonrum pinnum viral neekki

மற்ற நிலையை வத்தனைத்தும்

matra nilaiyai vaththanaiththum

வைத்துக் கட்டிக் குறை தீரே

vaiththuk kattik kurai theerae"

This song explains the surgery for tuberculosis.
